What is a
Tie Rod?
Tie rods are steel rods used to keep concrete wall forms stable during construction. Once the concrete cures, the forms are removed, leaving the rods embedded in the wall. While the ends of the rods are often sealed or patched, over time these areas can deteriorate, creating pathways for water to enter.

Why Do Tie Rods Leak?
-
Natural Wear and Tear: Over time, the materials used to seal the rod holes can degrade, especially under constant exposure to moisture.
-
Hydrostatic Pressure: Water pressure from the surrounding soil pushes moisture through the smallest cracks or weaknesses in the tie rod seals.
-
Improper Sealing During Construction: In some cases, tie rod holes may not have been sealed adequately, leading to leaks years later.
-
Environmental Factors: Freezing and thawing cycles can expand small gaps around tie rods, worsening the problem over time.

Small rust spots or streaks on your basement walls.
-
Visible water leaks or moisture around the tie rod locations.
-
Persistent dampness, musty odors, or mold growth in your basement.
-
Previous waterproofing attempts that have failed to fully resolve the issue.
